Fall Cleaning & Maintenance Tips for Porch Windows
A quick fall refresh goes a long way. Taking a little time now to clean and inspect your Porch Windows will keep them looking great and sliding smoothly through every season. Here’s a simple checklist to follow:
Inspect & Remove Sashes
-
Take a walk around your porch and look for anything out of the ordinary.
-
To remove sashes for cleaning: slide the sash to the left and pull out on the right side.
-
To replace: set the sash into the left track, push it fully to the left, and then slide it into the right track. Make sure you’re in the same track on both sides before letting go.
-
Important: Keep all the sashes for each window together. They can go back in any order, but they need to stay with the correct window frame.
If You Notice Damage
-
Accidents happen! If the vinyl ever gets damaged, we’ll send you replacement vinyl along with simple instructions for swapping it out.
-
The process is very similar to rescreening a window — the vinyl is held in with spline and can be replaced in minutes.
-
To request replacements, please submit a form through our Porch Windows Direct Service Page.
-
If you’re local to the Twin Cities, our team can also replace the damaged vinyl in your sash(s) for you — just start with a service request through the same page.
💡 A Note for Our Customers
No matter when you purchased your porch windows from us, your warranty coverage continues. If you ever need help, the best place to start is with a request through our Porch Windows Direct Service Page.
Cleaning Made Easy
-
A quick wipe with mild soap and water, using a microfiber cloth does the trick.
-
For deeper cleaning, we recommend Windex Vinegar or Sprayway Glass Cleaner — both work beautifully on clear vinyl.
-
Don’t forget the tracks: wipe them out with a damp cloth to keep everything moving smoothly.
Screens
-
Screen damage isn’t covered by warranty, but the good news is it’s easy to fix.
-
We’ve put together a step-by-step video to help with screen repairs — you’ll find it on our Porch Windows Direct Service Page.
-
If you need to replace the screen material, we recommend Saint-Gobain ADFORS Clear Advantage Charcoal Fiberglass Screen, available at Home Depot: View Product.
Get Winter-Ready
-
When reinstalling your sashes, always snap the top sash into the top track.
-
This locks everything in place and keeps your porch snug and secure for the winter season.
-
While you’re at it, check that screws are snug and give your door hinges a drop of oil if needed — a little tune-up now helps everything run smoothly later.
